I am a contemporary painter working primarily in pastels. Pastels are my medium of choice because of their vibrancy, plus the variety of results pastels afford - blended, sharp, watery, solid, to name a few. I also enjoy the application (at times) of drawing and draftsmanship skills while working with pastels. I work on a range of subjects, as it is a joy to discover the worlds within a still life as much as it is to dive into a breathtaking landscape. What draws me to any given subject is an appreciation for the moment in time, and a hope that it may be preserved.
I received an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts & English from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY in 1999. After 18 years of working in media planning and sales in the advertising industry in New York City, I began to re-visit the arts and studied applied arts as well as architectural and design history at the New York School of Interior Design in Manhattan, NY. I also attended a short but intensive facilitated studio practice at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass, CO in the Winter of 2022 which provided further foundation for a career as an artist.
My husband and I and our rescue dog Lucky live between Snowmass, CO and Nantucket, MA, with stops in between to visit family and friends.
Painting allows for direct participation with the beautiful light, color, shape and design observable in views both grand and intimate: I love painting because it makes me feel that I am a part of something larger than myself. I am also inspired by the experience of discovery that painting allows.
