Bringing us closer to the remarkable, power aspects of the world is a theme that Hugh has explored throughout his work at the Art Institute of San Francisco, and his graduate work at UCLA. Now on sabbatical from his tenured professorship at Maryland Institute of the College of Art, he has come to Nantucket for a “welcomed time of thoughtfulness” to create a proposal for No Man’s Land. Hugh Pocock’s current work explores the concept of the Rights of Nature in terms of re-imagining jurisprudence for the Earth Community, so that all beings have a fundamental right to exist and participate in evolution. He is seeking to create a 5 acre environment where human beings may not trespass. Ever. Never. Permanently.
