I am a third generation seasonal resident of Nantucket. My grandfather first came to the island in the 1940’s because it reminded him of his Danish homeland. Like my grandfather it is the landscape of this beautiful place that brings me back year after year.
Largely self taught I have been painting the landscapes of Nantucket and Vermont for 30+ years. Rather than representing a specific time and place my paintings are somewhat abstracted images of the landscapes I experience. I believe that paintings exist at the meeting ground between the external world and one’s internal, emotional, and spiritual responses to it. It is this response that I am attempting to represent in my work.
