Katie Kindlien is a landscape and still life painter who currently lives in New Haven, CT. She received her undergraduate degree in painting from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. A year spent studying in Rome became a lifelong inspiration to paint and travel and study art from around the world. She received her Masters in Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University and taught elementary and middle school art in New Haven for 25 years. Along the way she continued painting, traveling, and studying with wonderful artists and teachers such as Julian Merrow-Smith, Stephanie Birdsall and Paul Foxton.
She has been an Artist in Residence at the Art Association of Nantucket for many years, where time spent plein air painting during the spring and fall infuses her painting throughout the year. Her paintings have been exhibited in galleries and art associations throughout New England, including Manhattanville College, Rowayton Art Center and the Essex Art Association. She recently had a solo show at the DaSilva Gallery in New Haven, CT.
My work is inspired by the everyday moments of beauty that surround us. Whether I’m painting a still life in the studio or a landscape outdoors, I hope to capture the fleeting sense of light and space, as well as infusing the work with energy, feeling and authenticity. The process of putting paint to canvas and creating something that’s never been made before continues to excite me and fill me with anticipation! Through teaching I get to share the joys of art making with all ages in all kinds of places!
