Sherre Wilson Liljegren is a painter, photographer, mixed media artist, and lifelong AAN member. She received her BFA at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in Painting and Printmaking, before earning an MS in Art Education at Massachusetts College of Art. Wilson-Liljergen has shown her work internationally, exhibiting her ethereal landscapes and interiors of Nantucket, England, Spain, Mexico, Wyoming and the Artic. In the late 90’s she revamped the adult painting classes at the Gardner-Perry facility, later serving on the AAN board from 2009 to 2018. Residencies include two Visual Artist Residency Fellowships at Vermont Studios Center, and The Arctic Circle Residency’s Art and Science expedition to the High Arctic in 2019 and The Arctic Circle Alumni Expedition in Svalbard 2024
Sherre Wilson Liljegren’s paintings are informed by the idea of thin places - where the boundaries of the real and the supernatural are blurred. Her inspiration comes from the natural world, surprise encounters, memory and wonder - and a chance to catch a glimpse of the sublime.
The paintings are primarily mixed media, built from multiple layers of collaged materials and oil paint. Interwoven imagery offers the artist the opportunity to develop an unexpected narrative with intriguing, unplanned connections that might encourage a closer look at the mysteries that surround us.
Sherre Wilson Liljegren is a visual artist, residing and painting in Thomaston Maine since 2021. She has previously lived and maintained a studio on Nantucket Island for 35 years, and 7 years in Shell, Wyoming.
