Course Description

Painting Nantucket! This ONLINE class will explore how to document Nantucket in painting. We will begin with exercises to help artists gather local ‘color’ information of Nantucket by understanding various local subject matter such as marinas, beaches, architecture, floral activity, and landscape topography and terrain. Study of Nantucket history, past and present artists, and artistic process and techniques will move us into a more in-depth understanding of location and emotional connection to this beautiful area. Small studies and larger paintings will both be demoed and discussed. Class consists of weekly lecture and demos, as well as individual critiques of painting submissions by participants.
This workshop will be ‘limited’ so that we have enough time during each session for participant critiques and Q&A. Each session will be recorded and can be re-watched and viewed by the participants after the workshop has ended for a certain amount of time or for those who may have to miss a session during the zoom timeframe.

We will meet live online in an interactive format on Zoom, the link will be provided each week via email. Students need a personal device (smart phone, tablet, laptop, desktop computer) with camera & audio capability.

*You will register through the Artists Association of Nantucket. Weekly sessions will be managed by Chris Groves Studio.
