Block printing is as old as art making itself. All cultures have used block printing for everything from fabric design to fine art and illustration. Block printing can be as simple or complex as you would like. Bold black and white designs can maximize positive and negative space, while colorful blocks can create complex compositions by layering simple designs. Block printing can inform your own art making process and expand your art offerings by learning the ability to make multiples. Printmaking is also a fun end unto itself- make cards, t-shirts, illustrations, or fine art prints. The possibilities are endless.
