Course Description

Expand your horizons with the exciting possibilities of this extremely versatile and varied media. From craft applications to one-of-a-kind creations, printmaking is an open ended, never exhausted media. We will learn about surface design and block printing by creating your own pattern. Students will then transfer and carve the pattern into a linoleum block and print the pattern on either paper or fabric.

Tuition Assistance is available for all kids programs. Please contact Elizabeth Buccino, Director of Education prior to registering online.

AAN depends upon student tuition to continue to offer classes and workshops. Due to our commitment to small class sizes and the hands-on nature of art education, we are greatly impacted by cancellations. Nevertheless, we do understand that plans change. Surface Design & Printmaking, Ages 10–14

John Carruthers

I am the Visual Arts Dept. Chair at The Storm King School in Cornwall, NY, where I teach art to grades 9-12 including AP Studio Art and AP Art History. During the summers, I also teach at the Artists Association of Nantucket, where I won the Randy Goldberger Teaching Award in 2014, and the Mixed Media Award in 2013. I also teach a woodcut workshop at The Art Students League of New York. I have taught art in public and private schools in New York, and art history as adjunct faculty at Mercy College where I also earned a Masters Degree in Education. With a Master’s degree from the New York Academy of Art, five years of printmaking study at Pratt Graphic Center and Hunter College, I have been creating and selling woodcuts for 30 years. My work is represented by The Gallery on India Street, Nantucket, MA, and at the Artists Association of Nantucket gallery. In 2003, I started to establish my teaching career, and exhibited in galleries close to where I teach.
