Sage Goldsmith Tremaine’s oil paintings are known for their vivid colors and for capturing the character of her subjects. She began painting once she was old enough to hold a paint brush alongside her grandmother, Sybil Goldsmith, who was a well known landscape and portrait painter. They painted together every summer on Nantucket Island in Sybil’s West Chester Street Studio. The studio was designed by Sybil’s son, and Sage’s father, respected architect Graham Goldsmith.
Sage received her BA in Studio Art from the University of Vermont in 2000. After graduating she continued her training in Italy, followed by participating in an artists workshop in Lake Tahoe, California. In 2004-2005 she studied portraiture at the Art Students League in Manhattan, and in 2006-2007 at the New York Studio School, also in Manhattan.
Sage spends her time in Fairfield, CT and in Nantucket, MA. She lives with her husband, two young daughters, and their many beloved rescue pets. While in Fairfield Sage works and exhibits out of her studio. Studio visits are welcomed by appointment only. On Nantucket she is represented by the Artists Association of Nantucket, Peachtrees on Main Street and at the Westmoor Club.
